About
Hi i’m Marilyn
Just a little about me and my slightly convoluted journey to becoming a Mindfulness coach. I have always been interested in engaging with and helping people. For me Mindfulness and Compassion bridges the gap between calming your Mind and Body.
The function of the body and its relationship with the mind has constantly intrigued me.
After completing my Psychology and Health degree, my mother unfortunately developed Cancer and I was told that Reflexology was good for lymph drainage, so I trained as a Reflexologist. Then friends asked if I did Massage , so I trained in Indian Head Massage and swiftly followed this by a year long course in Holistic Massage and Bodywork. More recently I qualified as a Mindfulness and Compassion coach after completing a level 4 qualification (awarded by the Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) with Mindfulness UK.
Each of the bodywork courses contained in depth levels of Anatomy and Physiology, elements of which, explore the relationship between the mind and body.
I have often noticed how clients lack connection between their Mind and Body. For these clients I structure massages to first alleviate tension in the body and then allow them time to rest in the stillness and connect to their calmer mind.
Massage, like Mindfulness stimulates the Para-sympathetic nervous system initiating a calming effect and a sense of wellbeing.
Whilst Mindfulness has been around for centuries and is accessible to everyone, I have found that through regular practice it calms my busy mind , bringing a clearer sense of purpose and allowing me to be more directional with my thoughts. Many of the practices allow me to challenge thought patterns and move on.
The compassion element has allowed me to be less self critical and to support myself as I would a best friend.
Now, as a trained Mindfulness and Compassion coach I am able to share these techniques with you.
